DS Game: Jam Sessions

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

I recently read a review about this game and I must say at first glance didn’t find it appealing, however as the release date drew closer and closer I found myself reading more about it. The release date passed and I then started wondering if I should get it. Eventually I looked on eBay and got it for £13 (roughly). There were times while waiting when I’d wondered if I’d made the right choice in buying it. It finally arrived safe and genuine.

Almost straight after getting it I booted up the DS and put in the cartridge. I first of all wondered whether I’d be able to use it at all seeing as I’m not too good with music. Anyway I went through the tutorial section and it seemed fairly easy, press buttons on the d-pad depending on the chord.

So I went to song mode and decided I’d have a go at Yellow – Coldplay seeing as I like that song. The first 56 notes (I think it was 56) were extremely easy, It was B downwards 16 times followed by F#6 followed by E#m and B for 8. This wasn’t too satisfying so I continued to play these notes then the song got a little better. Not only did you have to strum down now but also up and now there was more variety of chords to play. I tried to perfect this song for the next… 30 minutes I think and I did notice an improvement. I tried a few more songs, then realised that you had to have some idea of the song before having the ability to even attempt playing it. The built in demo’s on SOME songs helps a little but I can’t really play them unless I know how it is actually played on the released song and because Jam Sessions also doesn’t tell you when you make a mistake or even often any tips as to where you are other than what note you last played, it is almost impossible to play songs you don’t know even with the built in demo. Of course only about a half of the songs have built in demos and being me… I can’t really be bothered to listen to all of these songs until I know them so there are only few songs I do play. However there have been a couple I listened to on the internet and have since played. I still don’t think I’m getting it right but, I’m ok at it. DON’T BUY THIS THINKING GUITAR HERO FOR THE DS! It is nothing like Guitar Hero other than the fact you are playing an instrument, it is more of a guitar simulator and you make up what you play as you go along rather than being told what you have to do. Personally I prefer Guitar Hero but this game is ok.

My overall rating is 6.9/10

69%

Pros:

Great fun for a few hours

You can pick this game up in a few months and it won’t really be outdated

Makes you feel like you can play an instrument

Cons:

Not that fun after the second or third time playing

Nothing to say whether you’re doing well

It’s not a game, it’s a simulator

I think if you have a DS and/or a Wii then wait for Guitar Hero 3, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 or Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii to come out or Linerider or another upcoming title for DS.

Link: Giveawayoftheday.com

What a great website!

Every day this site gives away an interesting piece of software for free, the software isn’t just bad freeware or trial shareware, they give away fully licensed retailed software. Today (27/10/07) they are giving away Business Cards MX which is a business card maker that retails at around $30. They change the giveaway at 8 am GMT so if you want the Business Card Making programme then you must download AND install by tomorrow morning (08:00 28/10/07) otherwise it will not work. I believe they give away screen savers on Sundays (tomorrow) so this may not be what you really want but most days the software is of great quality.

There is no spyware or adware, all files are totally clean.

This site gets 10/10!

My first 10/10 so far!

Also there is game giveaway of he day which I haven’t tried yet, so if you do, post your opinions here.

Jam Sessions DS Extras

Friday, October 26th, 2007

So…

I recently got Jam Sessions for the DS and I’m now looking for new songs and new challenges.

I have found a few myself, from the Nintendo magazine.

Also there is a code that came free when you bought the game from best buy that unlocks 3 new songs.

I believe this code works on all versions of the game, bought from best buy or not. This code is… ↑↑↓↓←→←→, that’s up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. And this code must be entered on free play.

Now extra chords for songs…

Everyday I Love You Less and Less – Kaiser Chiefs

How does that look ? Post comments, If you think its poor I’ll use a table instead.

Somewhere Only We Know – Keane

I’ll add more later.

PC Game: TV Station Manager

Friday, October 26th, 2007

TV Station Manager is a great game by Winterwolves

It is a tycoon/management/simulation game. And in my opinion one of the best of its kind.

Price: £12.95 (well worth it)

I would rate it 9.2/10.

The demo version limits you to 7 days and you cannot make your own show.

It is a great simulation game allowing you to buy, sell and make shows and show the adverts of your choice each advert having the targets set by advertisers, i.e. a 5 million generic viewer target and you will only get the money for the adverts if you have this many viewers. Your aim is to help a struggling TV Station to get its reputation and money back.

The show and actor names are somewhat controversially alike to real life names of shows and actors however at the start it assures you that any resemblance to real life actors and shows is coincidental J . You can edit the names of actors and shows in the programme files.

There is a cheat/bug I found that is a way to get a huge amount of money. Read on at risk of game spoiler.

If you start making a show, it doesn’t really matter what type or which actors. You can sell or add to schedule before the production date is over. Sure it doesn’t sound like a cheat however if you sell the show while its still in production, you keep the show and get the money. You can keep selling as many times as you like. But be warned if you don’t actually want to lose the show then only sell it while its in production (you can tell how long this will be in the section at the bottom) if you sell it once production is finished you will have actually sold it.

Anyway this is a great game overall. Not many bad points though it gets a bit boring after playing it for an extended period of time.

Check the demo if your still not sure.

I also checked out the game Democracy demo on the Winterwolves site and this too looks great as do most of their games. This may be the next game I buy.

Linerider Is Coming!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Linerider is coming to the PC early 2008.

www.linerider.com

There is a track made by Techdawg uploaded on the site so you can see a few new features.

Some of theses are:

Coloured scenery

Different Track Layers

Ability to do tricks (One of these is getting back on the sled with great difficulty)

Built in Screen Recorder (possibly)

Built in Track Sharing feature (hopefully)

This is what I gathered from the forums.

I also saw that there was no specific price as of yet however they say probably less than $30 (£15). Although they might raise the price in the UK (just my guess).

Also, Linerider Mobile is out… It is however £7.38 (if I remember right). A bit expensive for a mobile game. For that price you might as well pay a bit more and get TV Station Manager which is a great PC game (see my review).

And in other Linerider news :p. The site is lagging a lot not surprising really, this does however mean that its nearly impossible to play the online beta.
